Kyrgyzstan will exchange areas with Tajikistan / day
Since its independence, after the collapse of the Soviet Union on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, clashes of access to water and natural resources occasionally stand out. In September 2022, dozens of people were killed in a bloody conflict.
In December, the two countries agreed on the demarcation of the border, but not one of them had so far announced the concession of territories.
According to the agreement, Kyrgyzstan will receive about 25 square kilometers from Tajikistan in exchange for land and access to common water resources, said Kyrchib Tashyev, Head of Kyrgyzstan's Secret Service.
« The negotiations have reached the final point, and today they can be talked about openly, » Tashiyev said in the Kyrgyz Parliament.
« After reviewing the parliament, it will be signed by the Presidents, followed by ratification, and finally the final version will be signed by the leaders of two countries. And a contract will be prepared between the two countries, » Tashyev said.
Several roads eligible for both countries will be declared neutral under the Agreement and will be able to use both sides and will facilitate access to oil wells, the head of the Kyrgyzstan's Secret Service said.
It is also planned to move the village residents who will be exchanged in accordance with the agreement, and some of these villages will be demolished and rebuilt. Both countries have also reached an agreement on facilitated access to the area around the channel, which is very important for the agricultural sector, Tashiyev said.
