Krum Zarkov: Radev’s request for the referendum will only remain political consequences

« When the president clearly did not accept my opinion, it is the blazing of my activity, and if the legal secretary has an elementary professional dignity, he understands that gesture and dismisses the post, » former President of Legal President Krum Zarkov told BNT today. He explained that he had learned about the final decision of the President on May 9 – the day Radev announced his request to parliament for a referendum on the euro.

« The undisputed part of the referendum case is that international treaties are above national legislation. According to the Bulgarian Law on Referendums, no consultation can be conducted on a matter that already regulated by a ratified international treaty, » he explained.

Zarkov expressed the opinion that the referendum has a place in Bulgarian democracy, but in order to make a real sense, it must be well prepared and modern. « I think all this story, in addition to the tension it creates, does not really change what it knows. A convergent report is expected and the European institutions are forthcoming in legal terms, as the Bulgarian ones have already ruled, » he explained.

Moscow’s long hand allegations are nonsense

Krum Zarkov described as stupidity the allegations that behind the referendum was the « long hand of Moscow ». « We have to stop, if we want to have a democratic debate, to seek behind every position somehow conspiracy. The president has decided to move, obviously he has his reasons. In my opinion, this move will not lead to anything, only political consequences remain, » he said.

A day earlier to the BNR Zarkov explained what the political consequences would be. « Political effects will be created that I am not sure to be aimed at the president. There will be an attempt to impose tension, this tension to come out on the street, to declare a revolution. The question is which political actor is interested in losing the tensions of the streets. At first it seems that this will be the main opposition force.

But in fact, those who earn legitimacy they cannot otherwise acquire. They will again sell us the Mantra of the Guardians of Euro -Atlanticism and Stability. When there is a civil protest, the fermentation, the silent majority tend to accept the unacceptable – peace. Unacceptable politicians are becoming acceptable because they say: it will be calm or at least stable, « he explained.

Prime Minister is squeezed by political leaders

As the big problem of Bulgarian democracy, Krum Zarkov pointed out that there was no public debate in Bulgaria for absolutely nothing. « Debate in Bulgaria cannot take place on any question, because we are accustomed to the political forces to delegitate every opponent, » he explained,

Asked if he would remain in politics, Zarkov pointed out that the spectacle, which represents Bulgarian politics, repelled it, not attracting it, « at the same time I cannot reconcile that politics is this. I will remain engaged with it, but I cannot tell you how, » Zarkov said.

He is of the opinion that Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov is squeezed by real political leaders who are not in the government. « They are in front of the parliament lift and are looking for a legitimate move to take up a place they think they are. The authorities will either not be allowed, « Krum Zarkov said.

He expects a government to wander between stabilization when he talks about Europe and crises when he talks about the judicial system.
