Kosmos 482 over Poland. It will be a bang if it enters the atmosphere
Although it sounds like a science fiction film script, it really happens. Soviet probe Kosmos 482, which in 1972 was to fly to Venus, never left the Earth’s orbit because of the failure. On Saturday, May 10 – over half a century later – her fate can be decided on Poland.
The probe from the Cold War is back
Space 482 This is a half -ton of the structure, designed to survive Venus in extreme atmosphere. Therefore, there is a good chance that it will not fall apart in the earthly atmosphere, but will fall in one piece. This raises the question: where exactly and what time will deorbitation take?
Key hours and route of the Kosmos 482 flight over Poland
According to the latest data, the time window of the possible entry into the atmosphere was narrowed to about 10 hours. – And its center falls at 08:07:26 on Saturday morning, May 10. It is then that the probe will fly over Central Poland – exactly on the Zielona Góra – Łódź – Włodawa route.
If it falls at this time, it is possible that we will not see a spectacular flare in the sky – the forecasts are announced by low clouds and rainfall. But we can hear something. Experts predict a loud bangsimilar to the one that caused a falling fragment Falcon 9 rockets.
According to the blog « with the head in the stars » In this time window there will be two flights of the probe directly over Poland:
- Between 06:36:45 and 06:37:20, Trajectory: Jelenia Góra – Terespol
- Between 08:06:30 and 08:07:50, Trajectory: Zielona Góra – Łódź – Włodawa
Although the data is updated almost every hour, one thing is certain – this is the first such real possibility in decades that the relic of Soviet technology will hit Central Europe. Space’s services and agencies monitor the situation, and official messages are published by the Polish Space Agency. However, it is worth following events – even out of curiosity.
