Known data on applications for enrollment of newcomers in secondary schools
By the deadline for applying for newcomers to secondary schools for future school year2. April this year, on a total in parallel education 26,130 places) applied for 23,933 candidates, 102 of whom were candidates who applied for parallel education in different directions of the art gymnasium (without parallel candidates, 23,831 candidates were applied).
These candidates had the opportunity to transfer their application form to another school or to another education program for any reason, the Ministry of Education said for any reason.
Since very few candidates first applied for some educational programs, or even no one, the Ministry, together with schools in some programs, reduced the scope of the vacancies in April, so there are 25,552 vacancies (together with parallel education cities), to which 23,922 candidates or 24,025 candidates are registered with the candidates, who have signed up with candidates who have signed grammar schools.
Into Lower vocational education programsaccording to the ministry in a press release, 842 candidates applied for the transfer period, 5159 candidates, 10,071 candidates and 7850 candidates (and 103 candidates on parallel education programs). 6112 candidates applied for the General High School programs and 1738 candidates for professional high schools.
The proportions of candidates according to the type the educational program They show that for the next school year, 3.5 percent of candidates (3.2 percent last year) applied for lower vocational education programs, 21.6 percent (20.6 percent last year), 42.1 percent (42.7 percent last year) in secondary vocational training programs, and 32.8 percent of candidates (33.5 percent last year).
The above data on the proportions of the candidates registered show that this year’s situation does not deviate significantly from the previous ones, the ministry explained. This year, the trend of increased interest in enrolling in lower vocational education programs is continuing this year, and as every year, the most candidates have applied for secondary vocational education programs this year, followed by high school programs and NATO Secondary Vocational Education Programs. In contrast to the previous years, we have noticed in recent years that many candidates from smaller towns or places close to major centers have opted for enrollment in major centers, but this year we do not perceive this year so massive.

Candidates are mostly enrolled in programs in their local environment. Comparing data from the past years also shows that applicants have mostly been distributed between individual types of programs and between individual schools, so that we do not detect special pressure on individual programs or schools after the deadline for transferring applications. The proportions of applications in high school programs and secondary vocational education programs have decreased compared to previous years, with the expense of this slightly increased the proportion of applications in secondary vocational education.
This year, 21,986 nine students are completing elementary school, which is 681 students more than last year. The total number of candidates applied is slightly higher than the number of students who are finishing elementary school this year, since students who will complete the elementary school be enrolled and successfully completed at least seventh grade this year, some of the candidates who are previously educated abroad, and students can also apply for students to this year’s first year in the first year. Volume, but in another program.
Candidates who pre -study abroad and students who are diverting can submit an application form until 16 May 2025, a diverting students, otherwise they can submit a application form only to programs where there are fewer registered places than the posts.
Every year, the Ministry of Education, for the enrollment of newcomers to the secondary schools for the coming school year, calls around 4,000 to 5,000 vacancies more than the candidates of the enrollment generation. This means that there are enough vacancies and that candidates also have enough choice.
The call also follows the interests of candidates for enrollment, since every year the share of the announced positions of individual educational programs follows the intentions of the enrollment. The largest share of the announced places for the entry of newcomers are announced every year within the framework of secondary vocational education programs, followed by high school programs and then secondary vocational education programs. The smallest share is represented by lower vocational education programs.
At the national level, there are sufficient free enrollment places. Many schools, at the end of the implementation of the application and entry process for newcomers, remain vacancies in all kinds of programs, including grammar schools. “The ministry is trying to take into account and enable as many candidates as possible to enroll in the selected program, as well as to the selected school. If the school has spatial and human resources conditions and if it is a great interest in enrollment, we are trying to find solutions in the direction of increasing the scope of originally tendered places, so that an additional department is announced, « the ministry wrote.
Where the spatial and personnel capabilities of the school do not allow additional departments, they are trying to allow more students in the departments, such as the originally announced places for each department, so that the ministry issues a consent to the school for the creation of nodnormative departments in accordance with the authorized extent.

Thus, the schools, in the extent of the announced departments, accept several candidates registered, such as the posts planned for newcomers. In the Secondary Vocational Education Program each year, in accordance with the Rules on norms and standards for the implementation of educational programs and educational programs in secondary education, we announce for the entry of newcomers in each department of 26 places, while in each department there can be up to 28 students.
In the Secondary Vocational or High School Education program, each year, in accordance with the stated rules on norms, we announce for the entry of newcomers in each department of 28 places, while there can be up to 30 students in the department. These places (two places each) of individual types of educational programs are intended for repetitioners who must provide the school the possibility of repetition. If the school does not predict for the coming school year, whether there are fewer repetitioners than reserved places in the department, they may accept newcomers to these places or, in agreement with the school, also issue a consent for the creation of nodnormative departments. « This means that there are 32 students in secondary vocational and gymnasium training sections and 31 students each in secondary vocational education departments, » they explained.
“This year we will certainly provide an additional 400 places. Therefore, we can already say that the current situation in some programs, which may be a little higher than the number of places, does not mean that the school could limit the enrollment, but may also decide to accept all applicants, since, as mentioned above, it does not anticipate repeaters, or at least not much, so it accepts any newcomer. This is especially true for quite a few schools in the Osrednjeslovenska region, « the ministry said.
Schools that still have spatial and personnel capabilities have, in accordance with the prodice, now also have the opportunity to submit their proposals to the ministry by May 15. These school proposals will be decided by the ministry in May, the final decision will be known no later than 30 May 2025, and then it will be known which schools will actually limit the enrollment in the programs.
