Knowing Garcia II from Kongo or not to the fifth grade: « I also had to visit him, » says education minister Demir
Nothing provisions is strange to us. We too had to find out who Garcia II of Congo is. However, our children will have to know the man later if they want to switch from the fourth grade to the fifth grade.
That’s how it is on Wikipedia. « Garcia II van Kongo (died: M’Banza-Kongo, January 23, 1660) between 1641 and 1660 King of Congo and also as a slave trader one of the main characters in the transatlantic slave trade. » No, or few, candidates of ‘The Smartest Man in the world’ who know the man. But soon it will be expected from 10 -year -old cutters. This was apparent from the new Knowledge-rich minimum goals that Education Minister Zuhal Demir (N-VA) proposed on Friday in the Ursulinen School in Mechelen. « I also had to find out who Koning Garcia II of Congo was, » she said at the show.
It is no coincidence that Demir opted for the Ursulins: this school fits the English model of a Kennisrijk curriculum, effective didactics and good class management, already. The new goals were elaborated by an expert committee led by educational professor Danielmuijs, who previously led the study department of the British Education Inspectorate. The goals become much more specific. Student start younger with knowledge acquisition. While it sounded in 1997 that toddlers should be able to distinguish characters, it now says that they must recognize at least fifteen letters and pronounce the sound. For mathematics that becomes: toddlers know the count row from zero to twenty. Another example: in the third kindergarten class, five -year -olds will soon have to know that they live in Belgium, know a local river by heart and have already heard of the Nile.
In the fourth grade, this evolves to: Four de -region, all Belgian provinces – and immediately known places such as the Hoge Venen can indicate there – but also know where Belgium lies in the view of neighboring countries. And therefore also who Garcia II is. Learn the man’s wikipedia page by heart, for when the children have questions later.
