Kleinbergs confident about the ability to work in one team with the new Unity / Day

Kleinbergs confident about the ability to work in one team with the new Unity / Day

Both political forces have a common vision of many issues related to the development of the municipality.

« Riga needs bold ideas and decisive action. After a conversation with Vilnis Kirsi (JV), we agreed that we were ready to work for the team for the benefit of Rigans, » Kleinberg points out.

Cherry also pointed out that the talks were successful. During the meeting, it was discussed about the works to be done, which will also be supplemented with JV suggestions.

There was no position, but JV said it would be happy to continue the works that had begun in the current council term.

Currently, there are five council committees – the Financial and Administration Committee, which must be led by the mayor of Riga, and automatically comes to the mayor. JV also runs the field of traffic, safety, development and education.

Cherry acknowledged that there was a lot of accomplished in the field of traffic and there were a lot of work started that JV would like to complete, but keeping the traffic area JV was not a red line.

Cherry also admitted that looking back at previous disagreements between JV and the « progressive », some things were closed and set aside.

Kleinberg also emphasized that the « Progressive » looked at the future and, in his opinion, the previous strife would not interfere with joint cooperation in a new coalition.

As reported, the Progressive Party with the New Unity will take place today, continuing talks on the creation of a new coalition in the Riga City Council following the local elections.

On Monday there was a « progressive » first meeting with the « National Union » (NA). Meanwhile, a meeting with the « United List » (AS) is scheduled for Wednesday.

In the local elections in the Riga City Council, « Latvia in the first place » (LPV) won the highest number of votes, but the « Progressive » and NA party also achieved very close results, according to the Central Election Commission’s election results.

In the municipal elections in Riga, LPV received 18.17% of the vote, which gives 13 out of 60 mandates in the council. 16.62% of voters voted for « progressive », giving them 11 Member’s mandates, NA – 14.2% of voters, who give it 10 mandates, but the current Mayor of Riga, Vilnius Cherry, gained 12.9% of voters. As a result, JV will receive nine posts.

The list of « sovereign power » and the « Jaunlatvian » union has received 12.13% of the vote and will be eight mandates respectively. Two more political forces – the « stability » party, supported by 6.94% of voters, entered the council, and the « combined list », supported by 6.29% of voters, allowing five and four mandates respectively.

The initiative to form the new ruling coalition has been taken by « Progressive » in terms of NA, JV and AS. A total of 34 votes from 60 would have such a coalition.
