King « King Ferdinand », mission regarding the embargo on weapons
King King Ferdinand « It will be part of a naval group that will act to respect the embargo on the weapons imposed on Libya. The mission will take place in the Mediterranean.
The representatives of the naval forces announced that the « King Ferdinand » frigate left, on Monday, from the Constanta military port to participate, until mid -June, in the Mediterranean, at the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI operation, carried out under the aegis of the EU.
« In the more than 40 days of mission, the frigate of the Romanian Naval Forces will be part of the naval grouping of the operation, together with partner ships in France, Greece and Italy, and will have an essential role in supporting the compliance of the embargo on the weapons imposed on Libya, through the resolutions of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) »
The operation of Eunavfor Med Irini, successor to the Sophia operation, was launched following the decisions taken at the Berlin Conference in 2022, aiming to create the necessary conditions for the permanent termination of the conflict and to restore peace in the Mediterranean basin.
The representatives of the naval forces mentioned that this is the fourth participation of Romania in the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI operation, being reflected the firm commitment of our country compared to the efforts of the European Union to promote regional security and stability.
King « King Ferdinand » – 221 is commanded by Commander Florian Tudoraşcu and has a crew of 240 soldiers on board.
