The hoisting service had to break open a car on Friday, because a 4-year-old boy was sleeping in full sun. His mom had started shopping and left him behind, without realizing how hot it got in the car. The boy got overheated and had to drink a lot.
A woman called the police on Friday evening around five o’clock, with the report that a car was parked in the flat sun in Minckelersstraat. In the back seat a boy was sleeping in a high chair. She was worried because the car was quickly warmed up by the sun.
The camera test showed that the car was parked there for an hour. A patrol from the police went on the spot and woke up the child by knocking on the window. « Given the warmth, the dried saliva around the child’s mouth and the fact that the boy could not open the door of the car, the hoisting service was used to open the vehicle, » said the Leuven police.
Cool down
An ambulance also arrived on the spot to investigate the boy. He turned out to be a bit overheated and got water to drink and cool down. He didn’t have to go to the hospital. In the meantime, the mother had returned and was advised to let the boy drink a lot in the coming hour.
« The lady had gone to a store and had left her son, who had fallen asleep in the car. She did not realize that the full sun on the car would raise the temperature so quickly. When the woman in the ambulance got an explanation of the nurses who had investigated her child, she realized that it could have ended much worse, » said the police. (Johe)
