Kimberley Bos First Dutch world champion Skeleton

Skeleton monster Kimberley Bos has become world champion for the first time in her career in the American city of Lake Placid. In the fourth and last heat, she only took more distance from the American Mystique Ro on Friday, which came in second and the Czech Anna Fernstädt who grabbed the bronze.

At the 2023 World Cup in Sankt Moritz, she was still stuck at 0.01 seconds of the gold, but now she had a clear lead of 0.67 seconds on RO to four heats. « I'm super proud of this, » she says The NOS. « I have been close by so often. This gives a lot of confidence towards the Games. «

The 31-year-old forest was also the first Dutch champion in 2022 and that year with bronze also achieved the first Olympic medal for the Netherlands ever at the Skeleton.

Her season was not as good as well as in previous years. With a win in the Latvian Sigulda, she was only on the podium of a World Cup competition once and finished third at the European Championship in January.

In Lake Placid, Bos started on Thursday with a third place in the first heat and a second place in the second heat. That was enough for the lead that she no longer handed over with victories in both the third and fourth heat on Friday.

« Because I was able to deal with the nerves yesterday, I thought it should work today, » she tells the NOS about that. « And it worked. »
