Killed woman hidden in rain barrel for weeks – process

In Germany, a man is said to have killed his wife and kept her body in an empty rain barrel in the shared apartment for weeks.

He was accused of homicide, said chief prosecutor Eric Samel at the start of the trial against the 49-year-old before the district court of Trier. In the city close to the border, the crime is said to have happened in mid -October 2024.

At the beginning of December, the accused had reported to the police. He had said that he killed his wife at her request.

Ton and room sealed with adhesive strips

Due to heavy odor development, the man sealed the bin with cling film and adhesive strips, said chief prosecutor Samel. Later he also glued the adjoining room in the apartment where the 200-liter ton was stood.

The woman was mentally ill and had had several attempts at suicide, said the chief prosecutor. The 52-year-old had « dismantled » the last time, only spent on the sofa that she hadn’t left the apartment.

When her husband decided in October last year to kill her with a knife, but there was no express request for killing from the victim, said Samel. « There is no concrete determination of her that he should kill her that day. » The woman had been fatally injured with a knife stab in the upper body.

The accused wants to testify

Samel said that the act was not a cold -blooded murder. « The classic because of dispute or jealousy does not apply here. It is a rather tragic constellation. » The core question of the process is: « Was it killing on request? Or a normal homicide? » He said.

The German defendant, who comes from Dillingen in Saarland, announced that he wants to provide information and his person in the course of the trial. On the first day, only the indictment was read. The process continues on June 12th.
