Killed the whole family, the prosecutor feared him, the judge called him evil: ‘I solved them all in 4 seconds’
In a case that has disgusted the American public and left an indelible mark on the Elkmont Small Community in Alabama, which has only four hundred inhabitants, Mason Sisk, then 14-year-old, was sentenced to a life prison without the possibility of pardon for killing five members of his family, including three younger siblings. District judge Chadwick Wise described the crime as « creepy, disturbing and embedded with unusual evil » and one of the worst he had ever seen.
– I closed a lot of career criminals, only four of them, five scandal me. But this young man is on top of the list. I’m afraid of him, ”the state prosecutor said after the verdict.
Bloody night in Elkmont
The tragedy happened on September 2, 2019. Mason Sisk killed his father John Wayne Sisak coldly, 38, Mary Sisk, 35, and his half -sisters and half -sister: six -year -old Kane (also known as Grayson), four -year -old Aurora (known as Rorrie) and six -month -old Colson. They were all killed by shots from firearms in their heads as they slept in their beds in a family home. The family had just returned from a short break in Florida before.
That fateful night, around 11 pm, Mason Sisk himself called an emergency service (911) and reported the shooting. The police who first arrived at the scene said he was in the basement playing video games when he heard shots. He claimed that, ran out, he saw the vehicle moving away from the property. However, his story soon began to cause doubt. One of the police officers commented that Sisk’s story seems « a little suspicious. »
An investigation and recognition that is ice blood in the veins
During the interrogation, Sisk first persisted on his innocence, but eventually changed his testimony. He admitted that it was he who pulled the trigger and killed five members of his family. As a motive, he stated that he was « reported » to listen to quarrels in the family and that « the children were going through a lot of things. » After the confession, he calmly apologized to the police officers he was lying. He helped investigators find the killing weapons, a 9mm caliber pistol, which he threw next to the nearby road before the police arrived. It was found that he stole the gun during his family stay in Florida. Information also appeared that SISK had previously shown problematic behavior.
He allegedly broke into his school and vandalized it, and the rumors circulated that he had abused animals. Investigators also stated that he had previously tried to hurt Mary, who was allergic to peanuts, placing her peanut butter in coffee.
Mary Sisk, a teacher for children with special needs who was preparing to enroll in the doctorate, took care of Mason as his own son since he was four years old after his biological mother’s death. During his stay in custody, Sisk did not show signs of remorse or mentioned his family. His cold -bloodedness and lack of emotions shocked even experienced investigators.
‘I shot everyone in their heads’
Due to the severity of the crime, Sisak was destined as an adult, although because of his age at the time of committing the act (14 years), he could not have been sentenced to death. The first trial, started in 2022, was canceled after the FBI agents were able to unlock Motor Mary Sisk, which provided lawyers with insight into new evidence. At a repeated trial in April 2023, the jury of Mason Sisak found guilty of multiple points of indictment for serious murder. The prosecution claimed that SISK had trouble controlling anger and that the killings were calculated. The evidence of his disturbing messages he sent to the then girl from prison, in which he boasted: « I’m good with a gun – I killed my family for less than four seconds.
He also told her that he wanted to become a paid killer. The prosecution pointed out that Sisk called his girlfriend four times before calling an ambulance. Each family member was shot once, except for six -month -old Colson, who was hit twice and died in his mother’s arms. In September 2023, Mason Sisk, then an already 18-year-old, was sentenced to a life prison without a conditional discharge. Judge Chadwick Wise, explaining the verdict, stated that there was no evidence of a mental illness and that the circumstances of the case were among the worst he had seen, justifying the strictest punishment despite the guidelines of the US Supreme Court suggesting that lifelong penalties for minors are only suitable in the rarest cases. The judge emphasized that the victims were killed while lying helplessly in their beds. Prior to the sentencing, the earthquake testimony of the victims’ family members were listened to in July.
Douglas Prater, Brother Mary Sisk, addressed Sisak:
« My family has suffered so much. For years we couldn’t find peace for what you did. You were accepted in our family. Since the age of four … I remember driving you for video games, basketball training. You’re on all our family photos and that’s all we have left as a memorial to our family. The whole family was lost. I lost my sister Mary. » Mary’s sister Katie added, « We first saw the Colson baby in the coffin … I don’t know if I will ever forgive you, but I regret losing you. The Mason child I knew died the day you killed them. »
Appeal proceedings and the final word of the court
The District Prosecutor of the Limestone district, Brian CT Jones, after the verdict was pronounced for Whnt news: « I have prosecuted a lot of people in my career, and I can tell you that only four or five are truly scared of all of them, and he is at the top of that list. » He added that Sisk « is one of the most dangerous people who will ever be convicted in Limestone County. »
Sisk did not show any reaction when reading the verdict. His lawyers, Shay Golden and Michael Sizemore, announced the appeal, claiming that the confession was extracted, that Sisk was only « repeated » by what the cops were saying to him, and that the jury did not hear important mitigating circumstances. They also mentioned allegedly splitting drugs by John Sisak and an unidentified male DNA found on a glove at the crime scene.
The request of Sisk’s lawyers for a new trial was rejected in December 2023.
Later, the Alabama Appellate Court rejected his appeal, confirming the first instance verdict.
