Killed associate of the mayor of Clare Brugada
On Tuesday morning, the secretary of the mayor were killed in the Mexican capital while driving to work Clare Brugada, Ximen Guzmánand its consultant José Muñoz. According to the authorities there, an unknown striker fired at them at one of the main city avenues, then escaped from the scene.
According to witnesses, Ximen Guzmán stopped at the edge of the road where she was picking up Muñosis. At that moment, a man who wore a motorcycle helmet approached the vehicle and was armed. He fired through the windshield of the car, then headed towards Muñoz, which approached the vehicle. After several shots, the attacker retreated and fled. Police suspect that he was driving the engine and was expected to have at least one accomplice.
The motive for the attack remains unknown so far, but it is clear that it is one of the common cases of violence against local political actors in Mexico. Although the targets of such attacks are most often mayors of smaller municipalities, violence has been increasingly spreading to the capital in recent years. Examples of such attacks in Ciudad de Méxic are rarer, but in October last year, for example, was killed Alejandro ArcosMayor of Chilpancingo, Guerrero, less than a week after the appearance.
According to the BBC, the mayor of Clara Brugada at a press conference expressed a sadness at the loss of associates, with whom she had worked closely for several years. She announced that she would endeavor not to be unpunished for the attack. Brugada took the function of mayor of the capital in June last year and is considered one of the most influential politicians in the country.
State President also responded to the event Claudia Sheinbaumwho learned about the event during a regular morning press conference. She labeled the attack unacceptable and offered the mayors support. President Sheinbaum comes from the same political party as Brugada.
In the investigation of the event, police officers already seized the engine and a passenger car allegedly used to escape. The forensic investigation of the vehicle Ximene Guzmánja confirmed several gunshots, and the shots of the surveillance cameras show the attacker who approaches the car with a helmet in his hand, starts shooting, then turns, shoots and escapes.
The case was triggered by comparisons with 2020 attack when the then armed attack was the then leader of the capital police Omar García Harfuch. He suffered three shots and survived, but his bodyguards and random passers -by died in the attack. Jalisco Nueva Generación was supposed to be credited at the time.
