Kelemen Hunor. The next coalition must negotiate very thoroughly

The future governing coalition, respectively the future majority that will form the next government, will have to negotiate all the issues related to tax issues, said UDMR, Kelemen Hunor on Thursday.

According to him, if specialists are found, there are other variants to overcome the increase of taxation.

‘But, if there is no variant of reducing brutal expenses, then you have to think about where you gather more money. And then, of course one of the variants is the increase of taxation. I would try something different, sure, I’m not a financier. I saw countries that went not to collect the belt and increase taxes and in two or three years they managed to exceed the critical threshold. There can be several variants. The question is if we have time. If you choose a president who inspires confidence in financial markets, for your creditors, then you earn a little time and if you put a credible government, with people who know what to do. Otherwise, the financing of the deficit will become quite difficult and will be a pressure over the new government, as the costs increase, « Kelemen Hunor told Europa FM.

He stressed that an increase in VAT does not solve fiscal and budgetary problems.

‘VAT increase does not solve Romania’s fiscal and budgetary problems. It is a superficial treatment. You have the impression that you will gather more, it may not happen, because if there are no more availability to consume more, because the prices will increase (…), you may not consume. So, from my point of view, no matter what government and composition the Government will have, to throw on June 4 with an ordinance adopted in the Government that enters into force the next day is a great risk. (…) It is very risky, especially in this political situation, to operate with an emergency ordinance, « explained the UDMR leader.

Asked if the future government will be a sacrifice, Kelemen Hunor replied affirmatively: ‘It will be, categorically’.

‘That is why I believe that the next coalition or the next majority or government or those who support a government must negotiate very, very thoroughly all issues related to serious taxation issues, budget, expenses, income, because otherwise that government will not resist. Simion will try anticipated elections, categorically, but in Romania it is difficult to reach early elections. It is neither in the interest of PNL, nor in the interest of PSD, nor in the interest of USR. I think we can exclude the variant of the early elections, « the UDMR president said.
