Kaunas police have a new guide: Meet

M. Akelaitis was the youngest among the three candidates to become the new head of Kaunas County Police. He is 45 years old, the Zodiac sign-Capricorn, born in Biržai, but raised and studied in Kazlų Rūda, is a large child-the father of three children.
M. Akelaitis’ seniority in the home affairs system – 25 years. It was started by the Marijampolė City and District Police Commissariat as a road policeman-after the same qualification of a policeman acquired by the Lithuanian Academy of Law in 1999. In 2004, M. Akelaitis received a bachelor’s degree in public administration at the Lithuanian University of Law. Until then, he had worked as a criminal police investigator for three years Kazlų Rūda Police Commissariat. And at the end of 2004, he started his service as a senior specialist at the Training Organization Division of the Lithuanian Police Training Center. Three years later he was appointed Chief of the Organizational Division of this center. In January 2009, M. Akelaitis became the chief of the Public Police Division of the Kazlų Rūda Police Commissariat of Marijampolė County Police Headquarters. In June 2012, he was temporarily transferred to the position of Chief of Šakiai District Police Commissariat of Marijampolė County Police Headquarters. He later won the selection into them. And five years later, he was invited to head the Police Department’s Public Police Board, whose functions were taken over by the Police Department in September 2023, and Mr Akelaitis won the selection to the deputy chief of this office. Despite all the above -mentioned peripetes of the service, M. Akelaitis 2017 received a Master’s degree in Law at Mykolas Riomeris University.

The Police Department, announcing that M. Akelaitis was elected as the new head of Kaunas County Police, emphasizes that he has contributed to the implementation of national and international projects in law enforcement, strategies and participating in the legislative process.
Overcame two competitors
As already writtenIn the selection, M. Akelaitis competed with two representatives of this commissariat in the selection of the head of the Kaunas County Police Headquarters: since 9 December, when the former chief of Kaunas County Police Headquarters Mindaugas Baršys was transferred to the same position in Vilnius by service. Alexei Chramin, the deputy chief of the Chief Police Commissariat and the remaining only representative of the previous Kaunas County Police Command, Alexei Chramin, the head of the Kaunas District Police for many years and a former chairman of the Lithuanian Police Trade Union Kaunas Branch, who have not excluded this union. One of the versions is to participate in the selection for the position of Kaunas County Police Chief.

As it has already been written, Mr Baršis Pekėlus to work in Vilnius, thought whether to announce a competition for the position of Kaunas County Police Chief, or to appoint something from other police counties in the same way of service. However, with the change of the national police leadership, the change of heads of the county police commissariats began, that is, there was not much to choose, as the latter were almost everywhere « temporary ».
The requirements were shocked
When it became clear that three candidates were involved in the selection of Kaunas County Police, there was also a surprise. Many police officer spoken by Kauno.dien.lt admitted to me that there would be more.
This is associated with the requirements of the county police chiefs this year. For example, in the description of the Chief of Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat, published on the Police Department’s website, the candidates were given only five years of service and only a couple of years of experience. Only two years of experience were also required for driving a Category B vehicle.
In addition, it was demanded to meet the heads of Kaunas County Police to meet only the requirements of the third, ie the lowest or cabinet physical fitness. According to the portal kauno.dien.lt, in this category it is allowed to change one kilometer to one kilometer.
However, candidates to head Kaunas County Police were required to have a higher legal education and to pay one of the official European Union languages B1 or the advanced consumer level.
All candidates were also required to pass special leaders’ tests and get some professionals, one of them, a psychologist and certificate.
As announced in the description of the competition, the salary of the chief of the Kaunas County Police Headquarters, before tax – from EUR 3517.24. And the minimum salary coefficient from which it is propagated is 1.97. However, depending on the length of service, this coefficient can be a maximum of 2.45.
