Kaunas City Museum – Exhibition on Kaunas Archaeologists
The curators of the exhibition, KMM museums Lina Mikalkėnaitė and Povilas Gadliauskas say that Kaunas, like every city, full of history and stories, a large part of which still lies deep underground, where it is helped by an archaeologist’s shovel, so the appearance of this exhibition is not accidental.
« For the general public, archeology is associated with various exhibits found by archaeologists and large pits, often visible in the Old Town of Kaunas and other cities, » says P. Gadliauskas. » as an interesting and lively science. ”
He is also supported by L. Mikalkėnaitė: « The exhibition will allow you to touch the rather romanticized profession of archaeologist, show what the real life of the archaeologist looks like. Will allow you to look at Kaunas city with other eyes, pay attention not only to what we see in front of you.

In the exhibition – the stories of D. Balčiūnas and M. Bertašius
The heroes of « City Memory: Archaeologists » – D. Balčiūnas and M. Bertašius, two representatives of the same generation of archaeologists who started their careers at the 9th of the last century. at the beginning of the year. Archaeologists were digging well -known objects for many townspeople, including the cellars of T. Daugirdo Street, which can be seen today, and Marvelė’s cemetery, one of the largest in the Baltic States, researched by M. Bertasius.
According to the curators of the exhibition, it is natural that during the research, archaeologists experience different personal experiences and create an authentic narrative related to the city of Kaunas, so the exhibition reveals these stories with the lips of the heroes themselves.
Wishing the City Memory: Archaeologists’ Visiting Experience and finding its parallel in the city, will be able to download the museum gadget – in its section « City Guide » the route will be waiting for the exhibition.
