Former Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir will lead the Public Health Institute (WHO) on public health and climate change.

Katrín says that the chairmanship of the committee will not be her main work, but will carry out it along with other tasks.

She says these issues have always been very close and it is exciting to approach the international climate issues. This was stated in her conversation with mbl.is at the inaugural meeting of the committee that took place in Harpa today.

Asked about the purpose of the committee, Katrín says he is trying to ensure that governments, MPs and local authorities in Europe make decisions for the benefit of climate and thus health. She says many committee members have a lot of experience in politics and decision -making. There are a lot of former ministers and MPs like herself.

Clear connection of climate and health

In his speeches, the tricycle talked about a clear link between climate and health and were unlucky in the challenges facing mankind in that context. There were forest fires in Greece, melting glaciers in Iceland, landslides in Asia, climate, flood and heat waves among topics.
