The president of the Republic Movement, Stefanos Kasselakis, spoke at an event organized by the Maritime Sector of the Movement in Piraeus on « Shipping and Island Policy », in the presence of MPs Rallia Christidou and Yiotis Poulos Dozens of executives, bodies and representatives from island areas.

In his speech, Mr Kasselakis highlighted the importance of shipping to the Greek economy, stressing that the industry contributes to 9% of GDP and is one of the strongest pillars of our national identity.

« We cannot allow Greek shipping to lose its primacy due to misplaced policies and a lack of vision, » he said.

Analyzing the plan of the Democracy Movement, Stefanos Kasselakis presented a set of proposals aimed at maintaining the competitiveness of Greek shipping:

– Maintaining the tone tax, with scalable discounts for those investing in green ships, thus creating incentives to renew the fleet.

– Adjustment of the Greek registration, so that it is attractive to other shipping centers, offering tax and institutional stability.

– Creation of a National Maritime Innovation Fund, funded by the industry and the state, for the development of green fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia.

– Investments in shipyards and creating new facilities in locust islands, enhancing defense, economy and employment.

– Digital transition of the industry, with the establishment of a national digital shipping hub and the integration of AI and blockchain technologies.

– Strengthening maritime education and attracting young people to the maritime profession, with special subsidy programs and cooperation with international shipping institutes.

– Creation of technical schools to strengthen the shipbuilding zone, ensuring the viability of the industry.

– Promoting Greece as a World Maritime Center, through targeted investments and international partnerships.

Stefanos Kasselakis closed his speech by inviting all stakeholders to support the vision of a dynamic, innovative and sustainable Greek shipping.

« Greece cannot remain a spectator in developments. It is time to claim the future that belongs to us, investing in our shipping, supporting its people and forming a stable, competitive tax and institutional framework. The sea is ours – let’s make it great again. «
