Karney rejects calls to Canada in a conversation with Trump to become a US state / day

The two politicians met for the first time in the White House’s oval office and Trump insisted that there would be a « wonderful marriage » if Canada agreed to his repeat calls for becoming a 51 US state.

Both politicians later welcomed these talks, which had made progress, although Karney said he had asked Trump to no longer invite Canada to join the US.
