Even legendary Eden closed during Christmas 2021. Urbex or Urban Exploring means urban exploration, which is practically visiting abandoned buildings.
Capman Real Estate, a real estate investment company owning Eden Juhani Erke tells Kaleva that the phenomenon has become more common lately. In recent weeks, the hotel has visited several times.
Erke describes unauthorized intrusion as a « bad phenomenon », even if it does not involve vandalism. He states that each alarm involves costs for the property owner.
Oulu Eden opened his doors in 1989. The next decade was its golden age. There were so many customers that the hotel was expanded at the beginning of the millennium.
In 2006, the hotel moved from the Holiday Club to Sokotel, a S Group, which spun Oulu Eden for 15 years.
Then the lease ended and no new operator was found. Now the building has been empty for over three years.
A video published by youth Tiktok shows that water is still standing in the pool of a slightly dilapidated spa pool section. Still, the hotel rooms are still in almost perfect condition, with bedding in beds.
Eden is not the only destination for Urbex soloors.
Police are told to Kaleva that unauthorized breakdown has been seen as a phenomenon, especially in April. Recently, the intruders rejected from abandoned sites have typically been minors.
