Juraj Kukura finished as director of the Arena Theater

BRATISLAVA. Juraj Kukura, after twenty -three years, will not tell the Arena Theater. At a press conference, the robe of the Bratislava Self -Governing Region (BOD) informed about it Juraj Droba.
He responded to the information from the weekly Plus 7 days, according to which he was to terminate his employment with the current director by telephone and without prior communication. According to the robe, the reason for Kukur’s appeal is long -term reservations about budgetary management.
The theater will temporarily lead the current economic director and the BOD will soon announce a selection procedure. The Arena Theater did not comment on the situation.
Farming that threatens the stability of the theater
« It is no true that I throw someone out by phone, » Droba said during a press conference. The directors of cultural institutions are dismissed and appointed by the council, he stressed.
« It is true that I had a meeting with Mr Kukur, it was a personal, long and correct working spirit. At this meeting I interpreted serious reservations about BOD management against the functioning of the Arena Theater. »
In his words, the reservations about budgetary management, which threatens the stability of the theater and the fulfillment of the set -up program priorities. He did not specify what the irregularities in the management.
He described the previous cooperation with Kukur to be correct and acknowledged that it was a « flagship of BOD cultural institutions ». Now, however, the theater needs a new impulse.
The robe allegedly attempted correctness at Kukur’s appeal. « I suggested termination of cooperation and a dignified departure to the managerial pension, because the management of the theater is primarily managerial position, but, of course, the offer to properly end this theater season, to get the appropriate honors and, of course, reward.
Kukura has led the theater for a long time, but not a recorder
The Bratislava self -governing region is the founder of four theaters. In addition to the Arena Theater, it is also managed by the Bratislava Puppet Theater, the Astorka Korzo ’90 Theater and the Small Stage Theater, as recently renamed the Ludus Theater. All four have been leading or led by long -time directors.
Kukura has led the arena since 2002, Vlado Černý Astorka since 1995 and the puppet scene has been managed by Ján Brtiš since 1986. The former Ludus Theater has been managed by Martin Kubran since 2018. However, his BOD April meeting unexpectedly dismissed him.
The proposal of the Kubran’s appeal states that the theater plans to expand its target group to include university students, young theater groups and the wider public, and therefore considers it appropriate to « open space for all culture and art experts, creative sectors to present their vision, plans and proposals.
The new director should have a term of office for a maximum of five years.
The limited five -year mandate for statutory cultural institutions was introduced in 2018 by the Trnava self -governing region and in 2019 the Nitra self -governing region. Today, it is also true in Prešov, Trenčín, Žilina and Banská Bystrica self -governing region.
Theater does not want to comment
The new leadership of the arena, for a limited five -year period, will be decided in the selection procedure. The Bratislava self -governing region will declare it at the nearest council. Meanwhile, the theater will be led by the current economic director Jozef Šuran and the artistic director will be the dramaturgist and artistic director of the theater Alexandra Sarvašová.
The Arena Theater will not comment on the situation yet. PR manager Ján Lukáč only confirmed that everything that has been heard on the small press.

The Arena Theater has led since 2002, when it built it as a multi -genre city theater with several accompanying activities.
During his acting career he portrayed a number of theater television and film characters in Slovakia in the Czech Republic IV Germany. Earlier this year, President Peter Pellegrini awarded him Pribin’s Cross of the First Class.
Kukura was born on March 15, 1947 in Prešov. He finished elementary and secondary school in Bratislava. He penetrated the theater art as Elév magazine Film and Theater. He graduated from acting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava under the leadership of Jozef Budský.
