June will begin building a memorial place / day of the Zolitude tragedy
According to Madara Andrejeva, a spokeswoman for the Riga City Council’s Out -House and Mobility Department today, the contract with the general partnership « 3a » was signed on April 30. It intends to do the works within 12 months from the start of the work.
It is planned to start the works in early June. They will cost less than EUR 2 million, including author supervision.
Given that the memorial site will not be completed in November this year, solutions will be sought so that residents can commemorate their fatalities instead of the tragedy.
Andrejeva also admitted that the final decision has not yet been made on where the temporary monument placed at the tragedy will be placed. This is about negotiations with the parties involved.
As reported, the Remembrance Garden is planned as a bright memorial place where the victims of the tragedy and the relatives of the fatalities will be able to keep the memorial moments smoothly, while the rest will be a peaceful resting place, while reminding us and providing information on the tragic event. The idea for the creation of a memorial of the Zolitude tragedy was selected in a design competition organized in 2022, where the Meta offer from the Design Bureau « H2E » and consulting agency « Copywriter/Levelup » was recognized as the best.
