Ghent

With an unlikely 4 promille in the blood, a man was caught in a police check. He had drunk twenty Trappists during a day of ‘terraces’ and is now in danger of being declared row -fitting.

« This makes me quiet in a negative way. » The Ghent police judge had to take a swallow on Monday when she was presented with a special file. A man had to undergo a breath test from the police last year and ran into the lamp. « I had sat on a terrace all day and had some twenty Trappists. In the end I made the wrong decision to get into my car, » he explained.

The defendant appeared to have an enormous amount of alcohol in the blood: no less than 4 promille. With such a promillage there is a danger of life. You can get alcohol poisoning and become unconscious. But against all the expectations, the man still turned out to be very close. The police presented him with a few calculations and he was able to solve them flawlessly.

Alcohol

In addition to a driving ban and a fine, the man now risks to be declared driving unnecessarily. In the court he admitted his mistake immediately. « I have installed an alcohol lock in my car on my own initiative and I became a totent. Since the beginning of December I have been tested to prove that I have recovered. »

Read too. Tom Waes, Zita Wauters and Ruben van Gucht are by no means the only ones who drive under the influence: « Such a high promillage and you didn’t feel that? »

The police judge decided to postpone the file until June. « I want to look at the expert’s report before I make a statement. But you have to continue as you are doing now. »

Duvrinker

The file again proves how stubborn the combination of alcohol and driving remains in Flanders. At the same session, the police judge dealt with many similar files. « 2.5 Promille, 3 Promille … », she listed. « It is to be despondent. If a few BVs are caught, it comes to the attention. But now it has already forgotten, » it sounded with a deep sigh.

In one of the files, a Gentenaar was on trial who was caught with 2.6 Promille. « He was a duveld rinker, but has now stopped, » his lawyer argued. In that case, too, the attorney demanded a driving capacity declaration and the lawyer led tests. This case was also postponed by the judge. « This way you get the chance to show that you are going through a favorable evolution, » she told the defendant.
