Journalist and presenter Peter de Bie (75) died

In his hometown of Aerdenhout, journalist and presenter Peter de Bie died on Tuesday, on his 75th birthday. Omroep Max has that announced. De Bie was known as a presenter of the radio program TROS News Showthat he presented from 1996 with Mieke van der Weij. The program, which could be heard on NPO Radio 1 on Saturday morning, continued in recent years at Omroep MAX under the name News weekend.

De Bie was sick for a long time: in 2022 he finally said goodbye because of problems with his health. According to the broadcaster, his body was « on. » The Bie suffered from heart failure and had other health problems. « If my body would still do it, I would have wanted to continue, » says the press release of the broadcaster. His wife, presenter Dieuwertje Blokdied of cancer in March at the age of 67.

According to Jan Slagter, director of Omroep Max, De Bie has been of great value for Dutch radio and television. « With the death of Peter, we have to miss a public broadcaster icon again, » he says. De Bie’s broadcasting career started in 1977.

Former colleague Van der Weij says in the same press release: « He had humor and was totally fearless in that hierarchical Hilversum. After 25 years, Peter was a kind of husband who luckily didn’t have all day around you, I didn’t want to miss him for gold. »
