Jón Gnarr, a member of the Tour, took a shift at the Stodlum’s treatment center yesterday afternoon for the purpose of deepening the knowledge of the work that is being done there. He also visited the election campaign last fall and has talked to staff about the difficult position that has arisen due to resources and facilities.
In a conversation with mbl.is, he says it has been instructive to have had to keep track of the business, but what stands out after the watch is what the staff burns for what it is doing.
« An incredibly cool group of staff who raises a semester and for these kids and burns for their favor, » says Jón. The staff try to do their best in difficult situations.
The situation has been difficult on the coefficients
There has been a difficult situation in Stodlar in recent quarters, but after the fire in October, where a 17-year-old boy died, no traditional treatment and diagnostic accommodation has not been offered, as before. There are only four spaces in the treatment department at present and they have been mainly used for the heaviest cases, including detention and imprisonment.
Then a boy has been saved there in recent months, according to a ruling, which does not really have a home with the most difficult group. But since no long -term remedies have been available for boys last year, the only shelter that is offered to him.
Improvements are now underway on the Emergency Exchange, which was destroyed in the fire, but a part of the treatment department was needed under emergency care, and the department decreased accordingly.
The interior at Stodlum said in a conversation with mbl.is earlier this month that there was really no treatment on the coefficients anymore. It was only a place of storage. Drugs do not pay their way in and knives are regularly found in the rooms.
« We are nothing better for these boys. We are doing our best to keep the peace and make sure they do not injure themselves or others. But there is no improvement in this. It’s just a storage. That’s the fact, » said the interior in a conversation with mbl.is.

Jón hopes that Guðmundur Ingi Kristinsson, the new Minister of Education and Children’s Affairs, will have the opportunity to get well into this issue so that the projects can be undertaken as soon as possible.

Next on the agenda at Jón is to get to know better conditions in Gunnarsholt, which will open again the long -term treatment center Lækjarbakki next fall. The home was closed in April last year due to mold, but improvements are expected to begin in Gunnarsholt. Jón wants to see if the process can be accelerated by putting increased funding for the project.
