It’s Mother’s Day. But how to celebrate when you have no mom? It hurts sadness and missing to be reminded that the day still exists, albeit not for me.

Advertising for the last Sunday in May has been aggressive invasive for over a month. The gift tips hail but what to buy for a mother who does not exist?

Mother’s origin is from 1919 when the author Cecilia Bååth-Holmberg thought that the last Sunday in May was an excellent opportunity to celebrate mother, then there were plenty of wild flowers to pick. The fathers started to celebrate only in the 30s, which shows which parent is highest in rank.

Now content to get to pick Wild bouquets for the mother. Just as with the bran and Christmas decorations, the preppen for Mother’s Day starts ever earlier for each year. Already just over a month ago, the stores began to remind of Mother’s existence. As a mum, I am most reminded that it is too late.

Now I have suggested for the acid that we can celebrate Mother’s Day posthumously with a princess cake. In the name of honesty, I am relieved to avoid being crowded on the E4 south. Visiting the grave does not feel very festive, but a princess party would be a party.

The princess cake is a Swedish classic which was invented by housekeeper Jenny Åkerström in the 1920s. The princesses Märtha, Margaretha and Astrid were schooled in kitchen knowledge and their appreciation made the pastry change names from green cake to princess cake. The origin recipe was without jam and with lids of almond paste that was subsequently replaced by more rolling marks with less almond and more sugar.

The princess cake is today internationally spread and the New York Times recipe collection has a variant with mascarpone in the filling. Mom once made her own princess cake and colored the marzipan with so many drops of green household color that the lid was similar to kale.

In Småland, the first Tossdan is celebrated in mass with princess cake but for me the cake is most of all Mother’s Day. Maybe I celebrate with making my own. Congratulations anyway all moms!
