Jesenice lost the fifth final match, now the goal national title
The Zell Am See Austrian team is the champion of the Alpine Hockey League in the 2024/25 season. In today’s fifth finals, the Austrians beat Sij Acroni Jesenice on home ice by 5: 1 (2: 0, 2: 0, 1: 1), and with a total score of 4: 1 in victories for the first time in the regional competition.
The Jesuits won the first away game with 3: 1 in the finals, lost the second at home by 0: 4, then once again bowed in the away game with 3: 4 and lost in the previous home game with the same result after the extra time. Today, they were not allowed to afford to defeat for a possible sequel, but Zell am See was better and, after five games of the finals, secured a joint success as the first Austrian team in this competition.
In the final of the Alpine League, Sij Acorni Jesenice played for the third time after the seasons 2021/22 and 2022/23. In the last one, the Jesuits also won when they beat Cortina, in the first final a year earlier, they were chased by Asiago.
Since the Alpine League has been in the current format, Ritten (2016/17 and 2023/24), Asiago (2017/18 and 2021/22), SZ Olimpija (2028/19 and 2020/21) have won, and now Zell am See for the first time.
It is not over for the ironworkers of the season. Next week, the national championship finals await them, when they will compete with eternal competitors from Ljubljana in two victories. The first game will be on April 22 in Jesenice, the second 25th in Ljubljana, where there will also be a possible third April.
