Jeff Goldblum Jazz on the piano and also in Luxembourg

Jazz with star cast, served with a dash of charm and a pinch of nonchalance. Hollywood star Jeff Goldblum (« Jurrassic Park ») can not only chase dinosaurs – he also masters the jazz vibe. On his new album « Still Blooming », the 72-year-old returns to the piano and celebrates his love for swing with the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra on nine tracks. And this time even with prominent support from Hollywood.

Music career was a surprise

From small appearances in his homeland Pittsburgh to Broadway evenings with jazz musicians to film appearances on the piano: everything has been added, says Goldblum of the German Press Agency. « My music career came as a surprise, » he says, he didn’t plan it. « It just happened. I love music, I always played the piano. »

The decisive thrust brought a spontaneous appearance on a British talk show, in which he accompanied jazz legend Gregory Porter. Shortly afterwards the invitation followed the studio. « Now it’s already the fourth album-I think you could now call it a career, » he says, while buzzing jazz tones.

« Still Blooming », his new album, is a nostalgic foray through jazz classic-from Thelonious Monks « bye-Ya » to Cole Porters « Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye », which even sings goldblum itself. He is not in the foreground, but his casual, elegant game runs through the pieces like a thread.

Music can open portals to peace, humanity and depth of soul – and make us aware of the miracle of our lives.

His guests provide an additional shine: The “Wicked” colleagues Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo bring glamor and big voice, fellow actor Scarlett Johansson interprets “The Best Is Yet To Come” with such an elegant cadence that it stays in your ear for days.

« Of course you have big fan communities – that helps. But what really matters is: working with you is a real pleasure, » says Goldblum. « You are masters of your field. That inspires me to get better. »

Jazz love started with Goofy

His love for jazz started early. « I have never told anyone: When I was about five, I had tap dance lessons, » says Goldblum dreamily. During his first little appearance, he danced to a song by Disney figure Goofy-with a jazzy vibe. « Something about it grabbed me. » Later it was a piece of piano that finally lit the spark: « I thought: I love it. I love it! »

For Goldblum, music is more than just sound. « Music can open portals to peace, humanity and depth of soul – and make us aware of the miracle of our lives, » he says. He himself, takes his elixir every morning: « I play every day – first in the morning. Or I start singing. It’s my tonic. »
