The office, the internal administrative body of the Chamber, will decide next week whether alcohol can still be served in the Cafeteria of Parliament. Perhaps it is then unanimously decided to ban beer and wine from the hemisphere, can be heard. « Completely ridiculous », according to independent MP Jean-Marie Dedecker.
In contrast to their Flemish colleagues, federal members of parliament in the cafeteria of the hemisphere can still go for beer or wine.
Prime Minister Bart De Wever already took the grain during the debate on his government statement at the beginning of February. « That is no longer of this time, » he thought.

According to VRT NWS, alcohol is now effectively banned from parliament. Next Wednesday, the office of the Chamber will be considering that question, MEPs confirm and since there seems to be a consensus about it, it may be unanimously decided, it sounds.
Although that does not mean that everyone is in favor of it. Independent MP Jean-Marie Dedecker already showed his dissatisfaction with the impending alcohol ban during an interview in ‘Villa Politica’. « This is completely ridiculous and cuddly, » he said. « I have already brought my own drink to serve as a protest in the cafeteria next week. I don’t think we should be treated as small children. We are not the Flemish Parliament. We are supposed to be adults to vote on alcohol consumption and the like, but we would be too stupid to be able to set limits to ourselves. If we do not drink one Neut or two … we are now.”
Dedecker continues by saying that he never drinks alcohol in the room. « I have to drive home for two hours with the car, so I never do it. Really. But I can’t tolerate that something like that is imposed on toddlers and small children. The fridge of the parliament chairman is full of exquisite wines, because he also has to do receipts here. There is also a fresh pint there, but for the work people … nothing. »
