Jail sentence up to three months or a fine of 300 euros for parking trailers or campers in Greece

Prohibition of placing tents and parking trailers, semi -trailers and campers at archaeological sites, coastal parts, beaches, public forest edges and in general in public spaces, among other things, a law that has been in force in Greece since January, and otherwise penalties.

A prison sentence of up to three months or a fine of 300 euros per person or a tent or by means of transport, imposed by the police or the coastal service confirming the offense, is provided for violating the law.

– During the control by mixed teams, the punishment is sent by the policeman who was present during the check. When parking the above vehicles, where it is allowed under the Law on Traffic Safety, it is not allowed to take up additional space for the vehicle – writes in the specific article of the Law.

The free accommodation of more than one camper by private individuals is also forbidden.

The law, although passed at the end of January, was actualized in Greece in the past few days after three campers received 300 euros last weekend for free parking on free public municipal parking, which, according to media, had no marking in the area.

The case was reacted by the Greek club at campers, as the penalties were their members, and the Board of Directors decided in cooperation with the legal representative to prepare a letter to the competent ministers of tourism and transport with a request for further clarification of the disputed Article 27 of the Law, and the issue would be raised.

In addition, based on the answers they receive, they will determine their next steps and if necessary they will convene an extraordinary General Assembly.
