Ivaylo Kalfin: The Bulgarian Lev is not among the reasons to be proud to be Bulgarian

« The Bulgarian lion, unfortunately, is a weak currency. Since 1998 we have been in the currency board and the lion is entirely dependent on the euro. I have many reasons to be proud that I am Bulgarian, but the Bulgarian currency is not among them. » Former social minister Ivaylo Kalfin commented to you on BTC on the adoption of the euro and the abandonment of the lev.

According to him, the lion has been an independent currency for about 25 years in a 145-year history, unbound with a system, and these were « the worst years for the economy and the income of citizens because of the weak institutions. »

According to him, there is a great chance for Bulgaria to be admitted to the euro area because the political situation is favorable, since Europe is currently, especially with what is happening in the United States, is seeking more consolidation and avoids internal tensions.
