Two Belgian tourists had to be saved during a walking tour in southern Italy after being stuck in a mountain gap. The man and woman had climbed the top of the Monte Tuoro, but during the descent things went wrong.
The two tourists from Brussels had left the village of Chiusano San Domenico, west of Naples, to reach the top of the 1,424 meter high Monte Tuoro. That also succeeded, but during the descent they lost their way and eventually got stuck in a mountain gap.
The tourists could still call the emergency line, after which the mountain services Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Campania (CNSAS) and Scuola Alpina della Guardia di Finanza (SAGF) were called. Two rescue teams arrived on the spot and could reach the Belgian man and wife after a short search. The care providers succeeded in the couple in Abseilen and evacuating them from their perilous position with the help of ropes. They did not show any health problems and were brought to safety again. The entire operation took a few hours.
