It was supposed to be an infection in a 4-year-old. The study showed the monster tumor
This is one of those stories that show how important a quick diagnosis, modern medicine and a team of specialists are. A 4-year-old boy was sent to the University Children’s Clinical Hospital L. Zamenhof in Bialystok with symptoms of acute respiratory tract infection – he had cough and shortness of breath.
It would seem: a typical children’s infection. However, the routine X -ray photo revealed a dramatic problem.
The success of doctors from Bialystok. Removed the giant tumor from the child’s chest
Doctors noticed a huge tumor with dimensions of 9 by 5 centimeters in the child’s chest. According to Polish Radio Białystok, the change occupied almost three quarters of the chest spaces, oppressed one of the lungs and threatened the proper functioning of other organs.
There was no time to lose. The boy immediately hit the operating theater. The procedure was performed by a team of children’s surgeons from UDSK in Bialystok in cooperation with a thoracic surgeon from the University Clinical Hospital, dr. Borys Miśkiewicz. The operation was extremely difficult – the tumor was in the immediate vicinity of large blood vessels, which increased the risk of complications. The whole lasted about two hours.
Histopathology later confirmed that the tumor was a ganglioneurom – a rare but mild cancer derived from the sympathetic nervous system.
Despite the difficult anatomical location, the doctors managed to carry out surgery without any complications. The little patient returned to his strength very quickly – the fourth day after the procedure he ran happily in the corridor, and soon he was discharged home.
