It only became part of the Monuments Fund of the Slovak Republic last year.

Trstín. It is one of the few those who have built in the interwar period. It was created on a wooded hill at the foot of the Little Carpathians, on a place called Hájiček, whose history is associated with the medieval church from the end of the 12th and early 13th century.

At the end of the 18th century, for the first time, there were references to the miracles of the Painful Virgin Mary statue right here, so shortly thereafter it became a Marian pilgrimage site. The Trstín Calvary ranked among national cultural monuments in November 2024.

« The construction of a new, well -processed Calvary in the first half of the 20th century near this old pilgrimage site confirmed and strengthened its persistent importance. Fund SR.

Except for the hill

Calvary stretches from the entrance gate along the sidewalk, lining the terrain to the hill on which the church stands. Right behind the gate you will find a sculpture of the farewell to Christ with Mary and against her the scene of Christ praying on Olive’s mountain.

Fourteen stops of the Stations of the Cross, arranged into a circle around a six -phigural crucifixion group located at the highest point Hájička. Calvary is also surrounded by greenery that completes the atmosphere of the place.

Its authors are Kamenochochár Miroslav Harašta from Přerov and architect Josef Marek from Moravia, who lived in Trnava at that time.

« It is made of Hořický sandstone, a stone characteristic of the interwar sculpture in this locality. The farewells of Christ with Mary and Olives are based on the older Calvary tradition and are atypically conceived as statues, » added Oravcová.
