« It is hard to estimate who will enter the second round »
Interim president Ilie Bolojan said on Monday that there is a pretty ‘hard’ competition in the presidential elections and that it is difficult to estimate who will enter the second round.
‘I would not like to do some political appreciations, because I think that one of the important elements of recredible this position is to be aware that by representing all Romanians you have to stay in a position of main neutrality. Not because you would give you the Constitution some constraints, but simply not to offend the categories of voters, not to pronounce yourself firmly in one direction or another. I think it will be a two tour for sure. There is a pretty hard competition and it is probably an open fight and it is difficult to estimate 100% today who will enter the second round. There will be debates. In a debate you can win or lose, depends on how you present. And of course, there will be a campaign, we have another month and a half, « Bolojan told Antena 1.
The cancellation of last year’s elections, he reiterated, was an exceptional situation, pointing out that it is totally avoided.
‘I also want-and as much as I am, both in discussions with all those who have responsibilities and lead institutions that have competences in carrying out the elections-for each to do their duty, all the institutions to work, so that we have some free elections, in which all the political colors, all the candidates, can express themselves.
He reiterated that there were no discussions in a coalition session about a possible presidential candidacy.
« I have never regretted the decision to comply with understandings, because compliance with agreements creates long -term conditions to be credible and to do other things, » Bolojan said.
About the version to be proposed Prime Minister, he claimed that everything that is being discussed is currently campaign.
‘If you remember the autumn choices, it was a service prime minister who should have been quiet at home because everyone proposed to him. And now, the candidates do not hurt their mouths to sell the bear’s fur in the forest. But, in real terms, there is a parliamentary majority, each party has a share and when you set yourself-to say-some goals, if you are a realistic man, you must see what the means you have, because if you set some goals that have no connection with the means you have available, with your parliamentary strength, it means nothing.
He pointed out the need for collaboration between the President and the Government.
‘If we are responsible people, we understand that, no matter who is chosen, there must be a collaboration between the president and a stable parliamentary majority. Because if we do not make reforms for our country, if we do not correct the deficits, if we do not reduce the state expenses, we will not create conditions for development, to access our European money, to do justice. If we don’t do our job, things will not go well. So it is just a problem of time until we enter some complications and then not a person changes a community or a country, no matter who is the person, but the governments. By governing I mean the president, the government, the institutions in general – including justice, for example, that it was still a balance of the High Court today – they create a good context in which people change that country, in which people work, invest, trust each other and so change things, « said Ilie Bolojan.
