It ended up taking unexpected turn
« I: Just a quick walk – I’m going to work in 20 minutes, » the text says over the viral video.
The caption says: « Morning trips and mud baths! When you take the dog out on a quick walk before work and it ends up taking an hour and a bath. »
If you have a dog yourself, you can probably confirm that the felt dogs get wild when they see mud. But why do they really love it so much?
Dr. Sarah Yosry explains in an article from Modern Vet that dogs have many reasons to like mud. First of all because it’s fun – especially if there are other dogs or animals to play with.
In addition, it is a good way to cool down on a hot day as they cannot sweat as we humans do. Mud also helps them hide their scent so that other dogs and animals cannot capture information about them from their odors.
It can also relieve skin irritation. And sometimes it can simply be because they like the taste or consistency of mud. Therefore, there may be many reasons why your dog suddenly decides to throw himself into a puddle of mud.
Although it is fun for dogs to play in mud, the behavior can be prevented by walking with the dog on a leash or diverting its attention when it sees a puddle or a mud pool.
On hot days you can instead give the dog access to water, which can advantageously be in the form of a mushroom pool in the garden, so it can cool down without searching for dirty puddles.
