« It comes as a pleasant surprise »
« This comes as a surprise to us, we have to say, » said Tinna Gunnlaugsdóttir and Egill Ólafsson added: « I agree with it » when they received the Icelandic Television and Film Academy Honorary Award, IKSA, at a ceremony at Hilton hotel earlier this evening.
« It is invaluable to have been part of the history of Icelandic filmmaking from as good as the beginning, or from the fact that the film broke out and we started making films to some extent – and no less to have been an adjunct business to this day.
Tinna recalled that Egil was young and interested when filming broke. « Both active in the theaters and of course there was the music business, where Egil was Marghamur, but the world of the films fascinated with all its new bridges and all its opportunities to express and interpret.
And then we were called and have over the years been involved in numerous films and television films, together or in every way and the main roles have become quite numerous, or a total of three dozen. In addition, we created three manufacturing companies in collaboration with excellent people in the business who all made movies, albeit just one or two each, because each film was such a campaign and actually cost both sweat and tears, let the blood lie between parts.
It was an entrepreneurial job and strengthens extremely limited – it is still the case today – but we are talking about everything down to 10% of the cost. But it was not just the funds that lacked these bright spring days in the business, there was also a lack of knowledge of so many areas, and despite the fact that we should be a handful of educated film directors. The jobs are so many and most of them were working on the medium for the first time. But the will moves mountains and like so many others, we put Egill all under and went to most jobs, whether it was play and song, scriptwriting, composition, assistant management, production management, or simply to be runners, carriers and sabrants, and even at a time. And we were just a bit lucky, escaped the corner financially and even made a little bit of a little in one of the pictures, while we lost on the next one, but then just bite the jaw and work for the debt. But all this was worth it.
It can certainly be argued that it has not everything closed, but it is a hood of the development process and it applies to all art subjects, some bottomfells, while others survive and covers. But so much is certain that we can all be proud of this young art in Iceland, Icelandic filmmaking.
We are all in the world and the world is one, the same dynamic is carried inside with all of us and a good film can go so close to getting to some collective core and when everything falls together and a comprehensive work of art can be so strong that we as the audience will not be the same. Something is left, something that opens gaps into an increased understanding, a broader view of the person – in the world. The art is enhancing at its best, and the film list is certainly one of the most sharp knives in the drawer.
We have to continue to create and create – we have a mission to the world, just like the world has a mission to us. We have such countless stories to tell and on the white tent they find them widely and get a variety of references.
Live Icelandic filmmaking! «
