« The Virgin Cycle emerged very naturally, because the first work of the project was the icon of the Virgin. Later we constantly turned to this topic. Therefore, the cycle of the Virgin icons was organically distinguished as a reaction to Russian actions against Ukrainian children.
The archetypical image of a mother with a baby, understood by everyone even outside the religious context, is able to draw people’s attention to the least protected and weak, those who cannot stand for themselves. At the same time it is the image of hope and love, an image that gives faith in reunification of children with their mothers « – said Herman Klimenko.
The icon depicts the Virgin, who holds the baby of Christ firmly with both hands, Herman explained that it is « the call that our children who are in occupation or deported should not be forgotten to be left to be left for the first time. » Not only Ukrainians but also the world community have to make efforts.
Herman added that the leadership of the state decided to give their work. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has long been familiar with the work of the team and even has an icon from the project « The icon on the boxes from the ammunition ». In addition, the artist emphasized, last year the Easter greetings of the President of Ukraine were filmed against the backdrop of works of the creative group, which are part of a permanent exposition of the Sophia Cathedral in Kiev.
