Israeli ambassador in Lisbon says Israel « was sleeping » on October 7
Oren Rozenblat, Israeli ambassador in Lisbon, said Israel that Israel “was sleeping” when Hamas perpetrated the attacks of October 7, 2023.
« I think the main cause was our fault. Sometimes we think we have our values and that they are similar to Europeans or the Portuguese. Sometimes we think that other people think like us, » he said in statements to Lusa, following the Cyberrsecurity Conference, organized by the Deisrael Embassy, in which 12 companies linked to the sector participated.
« We think the most important thing to us is education, health, the economy, to help our children have a better life. And we think other nations think the same, » he continued.
However, « there is an organization like Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip. And they don’t think so. They think there are more important things than helping their children than the economy. And for them the most important thing is to kill Israelites, » he added.
« And we were sleeping. Especially thinking that other people should think like us. They don’t. They have extreme religion principles. Sacrificing their lives to destroy Israel is more important than children. And that was our mistake, » he said.
