Israel vows to stop Greta Thunberg from reaching Gaza with humanitarian aid
Israelian defense minister has pledged to block a humanitarian ship carrying Greta Thunberg and other activists to reach the Gaza Strip.
Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel will not allow anyone to violate the maritime blockade of Palestinian territory, which, according to him, aims to prevent Hamas from importing weapons.
Thunberg, a climate activist, is among the 12 activists aboard « Madleen ». The ship departed from Sicily on Sunday on a mission to break the Gaza blockade and provide humanitarian aid, raising awareness of the growing humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave.
Activists had said they planned to reach the Gaza territorial waters on Sunday.
Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament of Palestinian origin, is among others on board. She was forbidden to enter Israel because of her opposition to Israeli policies to the Palestinians.
After a total three -month blockade aimed at pressure on Hamas, Israel began to allow some basic aid to the Gaza last month, but assistants have warned that if the blockade and war do not end, there will be black bread. ATA
