Israel hit Natanz’s nuclear center, here’s why it is so important

Israel attacked Iran and hit nuclear and military objects, one of them Natanz. The attacks have targeted the critical infrastructure of the facility, which has been functioning for years to achieve the ability of nuclear weapons and accommodates the infrastructure needed to enrich uranium at military levels. The underground area containing multi -storey urranium enrichment with centrifuga, electric room and support infrastructure is damaged after attacks.

Why is Israel aimed at this center?

Natanz is the main object for large -scale uranium enrichment, a process that produces material that can be used for both civil and military purposes. Iran denies being in search of nuclear weapons and is not known to have produced military -enriched uranium, but the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recently estimated that Tehran can produce nuclear weapons if it further refined the uranium it owns.

Natanz has tens of thousands of centrifuga and is one of the main centers that contributes significantly to the addition of Iranian reserves of uranium enriched at high levels. The Natanz facility has been in the center of international attention for years. Included in the 2015 nuclear agreement restricting activities that Iran was allowed to conduct in Natanz, but since the US withdrawal from the 2018 agreement, during Donald Trump’s presidency, activity in the facility has increased significantly.

Israel is believed to have undertaken several sabotage operations on Natanz in recent years. The center was hit by a major cyber attack in 2010, and suffered damage from explosives hidden at a table in 2020. The following year, Natanz suffered significant damage to a mysterious attack, which Iran again accused Israel.
