Isaltino Morais refuses to have violated the prohibition of political publicity
The mayor of Oeiras rejected that he had violated the law of the prohibition of political advertising in an election campaign with advertisements paid in the goal. Isaltino Morais states that “there is no content that can be interpreted as a political nature”
At issue is a report released on Friday by the ISCTE Medialab, in partnership with the National Elections Commission (CNE), according to which the mayor has published advertisements paid in the goal, classified as « not being of a political nature. »
« This incorrect subclassification of content prevents the application of adequate transparency and supervision mechanisms, while violating the prohibition of political advertising paid campaigning, even in the context of early municipal municipalities or reclishes, » the report maintained.
The document aims at the period between April 28 and May 4, noting that the case « is particularly relevant because it involves the concealment of the political nature of the content. »
In a statement issued Monday, the mayor of Oeiras states that « there is no content that can be interpreted as a political background, » so he considers that « the accusation is false » in the report. « By the way, it would not even be possible, since the goal prohibits and blocks any publication that has incorrect classification, » he adds.
According to the local authority, cited by the agency Lusa, the « two videos » who were at the base of the investigators’ conclusions concern a visit to the Carolina Sales pastry shop and the Doctor Finance store, inaugurated at the Oeiras Forum.
The municipality also states that Isaltino Morais « is not a candidate for legislative elections, nor does it have any connection to political parties » and adds that « to re-apply to local elections, these will be in September. We are not even in the pre-election phase. »
