Is it unusually cold in May?
May last year offered temperatures above normal for the month, and after 2018 became the second warmest May month measured in Sweden. Maybe this makes this year’s introduction to be colder than usual.
– It is not uncommon for it to swing some this year. You can get some really cold and some really hot days, says Emma Rosengren at SMHI.
However, temperatures have not deviated from the normal – except in one place. On the night of Monday, the thermometer showed minus 3.8 degrees in Halmstad, the city’s coldest May night since 1941.
Even in some other places, such as Gotland and in the inner parts of Götaland, the temperature has dropped below zero in recent nights.
– But there you don’t have to go as far back to find as low temperatures.
Anyone who is looking for summer heat does not have to wait long. According to Emma Rosengren, higher temperatures are on the entrance, provided that the hot air west of Sweden moves in the desired direction.
– The question is whether it can start to enter the country at the end of the week or the beginning of the next, where we have slightly different bids. Possibly the temperature may rise slightly. It will probably be 15 degrees at its highest, perhaps up to 20 in the far south. But everything depends on the hot air getting in, says Emma Rosengren.
