A solution with security and flexibility
In Lidl’s stores, there is always an employee physically present in the Scan-self area. It ensures both a safe experience for customers and a high registration security. The boxes are equipped with weight control and an easy-to-understand screen solution that makes it easy to scan both bake-off and fruit and vegetables.
« We have wanted to develop a solution that is easy to use, whether you are 19 or 90 years old. It must be easy, fast and flexible. I am particularly proud that our solution has resulted in less shrinkage, which is an area that has proved challenging for more in the industry.
Since the rollout began, Lidl has experienced high satisfaction among customers and a significant increase in the use of the chain’s loyalty app, Lidl Plus. The proportion of customers using the app has increased by about five percentage points in stores with Scan-self, partly because customers can now simply enter their mobile number at checkout.
« We clearly see that customers are welcoming the solution. In some stores, up to 75 % of customers use scan-self, and we get many positive feedback, » says Mads T. Nielsen.
The Scan self solution is part of a larger digital venture at Lidl, where new technologies will make the shopping experience even better in the future.
