« Iron Curtain » – a tab of the history of the Republic of Moldova – the angle – see the world as it is!

In 2007, 21 brave Ungheneni voted in the Ungheni District Council to remove the barbed wire from Prut. It was the beginning of the process of dismantling the barbed wire fence, which ended in 2010.

This historical moment both locally and nationally served the historian Cornel Prepeliță as an inspiration to write a new book – « Iron curtain at Prut has fallen ». « The idea of writing a book about removing the barbed wire fence from Prut appeared to me many years ago. The district council of that period was the main factor that led to the beginning of the epic to remove that barrier that separated us from the motherland, and the initiator of this decision was the rayon counselor, » Victor Granciuc told us.
The book was recently launched inside the Museum of History and Ethnography in Ungheni, in the presence of local councilors, who voted that historical decision, students, teachers and border police representatives.
« He was also natural as a Unghenean as Corneliu Prepeliță, who holds a lot in the history of the nation, to write such a book. Through his work as a researcher of local history he managed to reflect those stages not at all easy in reaching the objective of dismantling that fence, which constituted a barrier between the nation and blood, »
It should be mentioned that all the stages and ideas referring to the removal of the barbed wire fence from the Prut are reflected. Also included are the decision of the Ungheni District Council, the decision of the Ungheni Court and the Balti Court of Appeal, the disposition of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Vlad Filat. In the book you will also find pictures of the barbed wire fence during its history.

« We hope as many people as possible to meet this book. For this reason, several copies have been distributed to all school libraries. Through the district of culture and tourism Ungheni, the book will also reach the public libraries in the district.
The event was attended by: Octavian Țîcu, doctor in history, Victor Graciuc, the author of the decision to remove the barbed wire fence within the Ungheni District Council, Vasile Lupu-Cetireanu, the judge who maintained the decision of the Ungheni District Council, Anatol Arhire, former vice-president of the rayon, in the Parliament, in the Parliament The educational institutions in the district and other Ungheneni.
