Iran and now negotiate three hours about the issue of a nucleus program: ‘Progress is here, but there is work’
The Iranian and American delegation ended the fifth round of negotiations in Rome on Friday, and signs of limited progress of negotiations directed towards resolving decades of long disputes on the nuclear ambition of Tehran have emerged.
Despite the fact that both Washington and Tehran took a solid attitude in the public ahead of the Iranian Iranian Program of Enrichment of Uranium, the Iranian Foreign Minister Abas Arakči said that the latter potential for progress after Oman made several proposals during the negotiations.
– We have just finished one of the most proofessional rounds of negotiations. We firmly brought out the Iranian position. The fact that we are now on a reasonable path, in my point of view, is already a sign of progress – Arakci told state television. « Proposals and solutions will be considered in the participant capitals and a new negotiation round will be scheduled on this basis. »
A senior American official said the negotiations lasted more than two hours and that they took place directly and indirectly with Oman mediators.
– Negotiations are still constructive – we have made further progress, but there is still work to do. Both sides agreed to meet in the near future. We are grateful to our Oman partners for their mediation – the official said.
The roles are high for both sides. President Donald Trump wants to stop Tehran from the potential nuclear weapon production that could stimulate the regional nuclear weapons race and threaten Israel. The Islamic Republic, for its part, wants to get rid of devastating sanctions that adversely affect its economy based on oil exports.
Omanski Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said on Xu that the negotiations between Arakci and Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, ended up « with a certain but not final progress. »
