Invites you to apply for youth health project Olympians in schools with Rimi / Day
The project was developed on the basis of sports policy guidelines 2022-2027. For the period 2007-2013, the priority of which is the involvement of children and young people in the sport, as well as the LOC vision 2030 to make at least 50% of the public regularly engaged in physical activity.
LOC President Raimonds Lazdiņš emphasizes: “The Latvian Olympic Committee draws attention to that physical health is one of the most important prerequisites for the sustainability and development of the nation. Without a whole and active society, our country is threatened, so these issues have to approach urgency and responsibility today. Active and healthy.

The Olympians in schools with Rimi are designed to promote public physical activity, understanding of healthy eating, balanced daytime regime and sustainable use of resources, inspiring young people with athletes, nutritionists and other personalities. « Olympians in schools with Rimi » will visit Latvian educational institutions in the autumn, where the curriculum for grades 5-8 is implemented. The visit will take place from September to November.
The program is also supported by the Latvian Paralympic Committee. During the events, students will meet with Olympic and Paralympic athletes, nutritionists and influential persons who will provide attractive, engaging and exploratory content. Through physical and mind tasks, young people will acquire new knowledge of the basic principles of a healthy lifestyle. These include a physically active lifestyle, sleep habits, balancing of the daily regimen, healthy eating, water consumption, stress resistance and other aspects.
The event will include test tasks for knowledge testing before the visit. Educational information is presented with inflencers involvement and experience stories – working group activities, team games, demonstrations, competitions and quiz. In the active part, young people will apply the newly acquired knowledge and experience in team tasks, accumulating points for the overall result. Methodological materials and worksheets will be provided for the sustainability of the topics, which will continue to raise awareness of healthy lifestyle issues after the « Olympians in schools with Rimi ». Young people will have the opportunity to connect to the LOC application, where various challenges will be available to promote physical activity, healthy diet and adequate daily regimen.
The « Olympians in schools with Rimi » is based on the latest data and recommendations on healthy daytime regimen, nutrition and physical activity, taking into account the knowledge of Latvian pupils’ health habits (2022/2023 year), indicating the need to improve youth nutrition, physical activity and sleeping habits. The project is based on the Focus Group study organized by the LOC and Rimi in the five regions of which have been examined and clarified for young people, the methods of presenting information, the application of the project and the ways to address.
The project will be implemented in close cooperation with the Center for Disease Prevention and Control and the Ministry of Health, which will provide up -to -date information, guidelines and content on a healthy lifestyle. The Latvian Paralympic Committee will also be actively involved in the project, participating with athletes who will be inspired by sharing their experiences and motivating young people.
