Introduce a new symbol for gender -neutral space

Hugi Þeyr Gunnarsson, graphic designer, won a victory in competition for symbols of gender neutral space, but the award was awarded yesterday at the exhibition « Symbol for gender -neutral space » which is currently underway at Design March.

The reason for the competition is that this year, five years have passed the Act on Sexual Autonomy in Iceland. In the fourth proposal, the competition was received by the Association of ’78, the Association of Icelandic cartoonists (FÍT) and the Center for Design and Architecture, and they are all on display at the exhibition itself.

The work of Huga shows the outline of a four -person who overlaps, thus forming a space that contains more than one person at the same time.

The work of Huga shows the outline of a four -person who overlaps, thus forming a space that contains more than one person at the same time. This overlap is symbolic of the purpose of gender -neutral spaces, which are the common space of all.

The second seat was awarded to Kateřina Blahutová for a sign -based signal *, which is used both as a signage symbol in written language in some languages, and also as a precipitation symbol for sensitive or personal information. Two proposals shared third place. On the one hand, the proposal of Laufey Jónsdóttir and Steinþór Rafn Matthíasson, and on the other, the proposal of Kristín Gunnar Atlason.
