On the eve of its first solo-solitary performance in Belgrade, Russian composer and pianist Alex Solely It reveals that life in the Serbian capital inspired him that he was still diving in artistic expression.
After a successful debut album « Piano Solely, « who brought him international recognition and silver medal on the Global Music Awards, published another album called « The Home Concert « , mastered in a prestigious study of Abbey Road.
Concert scheduled for 13. June In the hall of Belgrade’s Philharmonic, it will be an opportunity for audience to experience the emotional power of his music, which connects minimalism, introspue and narrative character.
You live and create in Belgrade for some time, and in front of you is the first solo concert in this city. How did Belgrade affect your creativity and emotional attitude towards music?
– Belgrade is a wonderful city with a rich history, warm people and excellent kitchen. The city offers an entire range of emotion and sensation, which positively affects the creative process. Music always comes from emotion and experiences – neither case is an exception.
Your music often combines minimalism, introspectiveness and film atmosphere. How are your compositions arise – does the inspiration come from the story, the image, sound?
– Life experience gives birth feelings, they turn into emotions, and emotions are always looking for a way to be expressed. I am lucky to express them through my music. People recognize it, and that’s why I often get comments that my compositions work very personal, almost confessory. And it’s really like that. I never write music technically – all I do comes from personal experience.
The album « Piano Solely » brought you international recognition. How did you experience that success and how much does the Global Music Awards?
– Of course, I enjoy the positive reactions of colleagues and experts from the music industry. But, with all respect, I mean the audience more carefully and the words of gratitude after the concert.
Your new album « The Home Concert » is mastered in the famous Abbey Road Studio. What did that cooperation look like and what did she mean like an artist?
– It’s definitely a great honor for me. I sent a shot, they approved it and done mastering (this is a technical procedure that prepares an album for publication on different platforms) so you can get the same sound from your home speakers as we had at that concert. And, accordingly, the same emotions.

At the concert will follow your string quartet Meraki and other musicians. How do you choose associates and how many visual and team aspects contribute to your entire performance?
– It is very important that we agree on human qualities so that we can create relaxed together. And, of course, it is very important that musicians are interested in bringing themselves and creates something. I don’t like a very pure « working » approach, even if the musician is super professional. I am convinced that it is really interesting and worthless to be honestly enjoying that process.
You stated that the « piano for you the whole orchestra ». Can you bring that poetic approach closer to us and how does it reflect in your live music?
– Actually, it’s not as a poetic statement as literate. When opera singers practice, they do it by piano – because just the piano can mimic the whole orchestra. In one interview I said that in the piano I can even hear the wind. Although, I admit, maybe it was just noise in my ears. 🙂
