Internal report shows deficiencies on Foreneede Care’s elderly homes
When care giant Foreneede Care’s management team was called to a crisis preparedness meeting, many believed that they would be able to prepare for a power outage or maybe a fire. But the meeting was about what happens when the media writes something negative about one of the company’s 55 elderly homes.
– Crisis management with us was to keep something away from the media instead of making sure the elderly are doing well. Then like my whole moral compass, says a person who previously sat in Foreneede Care’s management team.
DN has in several articles Told about misconduct at Foreneede Care’s elderly homes. It is about the elderly who have not had the teeth brushed for months, a demented man who has disappeared without the staff noticing it and a woman who was forced to amputate a leg after being left in scald water.
An internal quality report was compiled in August last year. It is based on collected data and interviews for 18 months.
The report showed that none of the 48 housing surveys surveyed lived up to the basic requirements that exist on documentation and follow -up.
– These are requirements that you have to live up to in order to be able to run the elderly at all, says the source.
It is about having to write deviations, update care planning and document that the elderly actually receive the care and care they are entitled to. Some elderly homes, which Tullkvarnsvägen in Krokom, which DN wrote, had zero percent completed self -checks.
The report states: « Less than half of our operations would cope with an IVO control today ».
– These are offensive things that emerged. An implementation plan should be updated and does not it means a huge risk moment. An older one just gets worse and worse and needs more help, says the source.
« It is an almost non -existent quality documentation at central level. Here is an imminent risk for the company as a whole, » the report states.
None of the accommodation in the report had updated all care plans.
The report was passed on to the management. According to the source, the report then ended up in the « Office box » – a description that the company does not agree with.
“Several of the areas that are identified in the document have already been rectified, or handled on an ongoing basis, writes Foreneede Care’s communications manager Roy Sundvall in an email to DN.
According to him, the document is used in the company’s continuous improvement work.
DN has talked to Several people who were at the top of the company’s management. The picture that emerges is a company in economic crisis that tries to save on staff, hours and consumables.
Right now, the company is threatened by the multi -million white from municipalities that are greater than the profit in the last annual report.
The changes began in 2021, says a former senior manager. Then Christer Henriksson, who founded Foreneede Care’s Swedish operations, left after 23 years in the company.
A new group management took over with the Danish Lars Folkmann at the forefront, and the focus was shifted from quality to financial results, according to DN’s source.
-Lars Folkmann came from sales and marketing, and wanted to sell care in the same way you sell butter or Coca-Cola, says the former manager who left the company a number of years ago.
At the same time, the source notes That Foreneede Care’s financial results have deteriorated over the years. In 2023, profits (earnings after financial items) amounted to just under SEK 1 million, despite a turnover of SEK 1.7 billion.
– If you have good care and quality in care, you actually make money. Previously, we made profits of around 50 million a year. A lot of things have been done since then, and unfortunately not very positive, says the source.
In February 2023, Foreneede bought the competitor A&O responsibility and care for just over SEK 350 million, which made them the third largest player in the elderly in Sweden.
This happened in parallel with the company’s indebtedness being increased significantly. Integrating the new company and its accommodation has been difficult, according to DN’s sources.
Communications Manager Roy Sundvall writes that Foreneede Care has put a lot of effort into improving operations in the past year.
« Our improvement work is neither hidden nor ignored – on the contrary, it is an active and priority process that we are transparent with in our dialogue with municipalities and supervisory authorities ».
