Intellectual Property Protection is not just a legal formality / day
As LETA informed the State Chancellery, Siliņa discussed cooperation between Latvia and WIPO on Monday, emphasizing the importance of innovation in Latvia’s economic development.
The Prime Minister emphasizes that intellectual property protection is not only a legal formality. « It is an integral part of modern, innovative and development -oriented economy. Intellectual property also plays an important role in Latvia’s development plans, » the Prime Minister said.
According to the pulpit, Silina and Tang spoke about the role of innovation in the transfer of artificial intelligence and technology. The WIPO Director General has welcomed the creation of the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Latvia, seeing it as a good opportunity for interdisciplinary cooperation and the development of new products.
The Prime Minister says the competitiveness of companies is often dependent on patented solutions, and that universities play an important role in the development of innovation. « It is important that we can commercialize their products to gain economic benefits, » admits the Prime Minister, talking about the role of science and research in promoting competitiveness.
According to the Chancellery, with the support of WIPO, several public information and education initiatives have been successfully implemented in Latvia, which have raised a broader understanding of the importance of intellectual property in society and business. For example, a technology transfer network has been established and a mentor program for start -ups has been implemented.
Silina thanked the tang for the long -term and significant organization’s support for Latvia over the years. The Prime Minister said that one of the government’s top priorities is reducing the bureaucratic burden and economic development, and WIPO plays an important role here. « Patents are an important tool in integrating innovation into a business environment, » says the Prime Minister.
Tang has arrived in Latvia on the 105th anniversary of the Latvian Patent Office and will participate in the international conference « Intellectual Property as a catalyst for innovation and growth: combining research, technology and SMEs » and Latvian intellectual property awards ceremony.
The heads of the European Patent Office (EPO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Bureau (EUIPO) will also visit Latvia, the pulpit informs.
According to information on the website of the Ministry of Culture, the World Intellectual Property Organization is an international organization engaged in the protection of intellectual property. Its headquarters are located in Geneva, Switzerland.
The organization has 189 Member States, including Latvia.
